Big Ben visit
On the last Friday of each month, we try to finish work a little earlier than usual, give the studio a quick hoover and head out somewhere interesting.
In the past, we have been to the IMAX Cinema, Tate Modern and a local glassblowing workshop, but this outing topped the lot.
Our New Business Manager, Sharren, has ‘friends in high places’ and managed to wangle us a trip to see Big Ben at close quarters, expertly guided by Paul Roberson, one of a small team of horologists who look after the 2,000 clocks in the Palace of Westminster. There were 334 steps to climb, but a couple of stops along the way allowed us to get our breath back, while Paul entertained us with the fascinating history of the building.
There were plenty of photo opportunities to be had once we reached the clock faces, and in the room that houses the incredible clock mechanism, where we all took turns winding it up. Once in the Bell Tower, we were treated to fantastic views across London, accompanied by the sound of the 6 o’clock chimes.
A great afternoon and definitely one to cross off the bucket list.
